Correspondence between breast implants and higher cancer rates
Recent studies have shown a higher cancer rate among patients with breast implants. This is only one of the many dangers and risks breast implants bring about. The reason for these higher rates can be found on very sound facts.
It is well known that mammogram is one of the most secure methods to detect cancer in their early stages. Women over forty years of age should have a mammogram performed every six months. Another proven way to detect cancer is routine self-exam. Women must learn this technique and apply this from their early years. It is a good way to detect lumps as soon as they start developing.
The thing is that, in women with breast implants, these techniques loose their effectiveness. Mammograms become impossible, because the implants block the way of the lens, therefore the exam is no use to detect lumps. Also, the mammogram becomes much more painful with the implant. Breast leaking can occur while performing this exam, with perilous consequences to the health.
Self-exam is also rendered pointless, when the patient has breast implants. There will always be a hard foreign body inside the breast, so lumps cannot be detected.
Patients with breast implants receive more radiation when they have an X-ray taken. This is so because the implants absorb a greater amount of radiation than the body.
These are some of the causes why cancer rates seem to be higher with women who have breast implants.
